Acrylic Fibre Co., Ltd. operates a Product Stewardship Policy that follows best practice guidelines. Consumers and industry can be assured that Amicor has been engineered with full consideration of lifecycle, end-use and environmental issues.
Amicor meets all of the current and imminent legislation that is in place in the markets where it is used, to protect the environment.
For example, Amicor is the only fibre at this time that is listed on the Oekotex ‘White List’ of approved antimicrobial fibres.
Amicor's additives
The additives used to impart antibacterial and antifungal properties to Amicor Pure are the highest purity pharmaceutical grades for both of these additives, which are both notified on the European Biocidals Directive. This new Directive became law in May 2002 and requires all chemicals with any activity against living organisms to be notified and supported with full Health, Safety and Environmental impact datasets. From the extensive datasets that already exist on these additives, following 20+ years of safe use in cosmetic and pharmaceutical end uses, we do fully expect that both additives and Amicor Pure fibre will be cleared as safe for use by this Directive.
Controlled diffusion
Amicor fibre delivers antimicrobial additives in the most safe and effective way. The additives are added to the liquid polymer before the fibres are fully formed, which means that 99.5% of the additive is inside the fibre structure - not just on the surface of the fibre. As the additives are washed and worn away, the fibre structure allows for replacement by slowly diffusing more additive to the fibre surface, maintaining constant activity. We claim 200-wash or 10 year durability on Amicor products, depending on washing frequency. The slow diffusion mechanism deep within the fibre is the key to Amicor’s durability and continuous control.
A history of use
The addittives used in Amicor have a long track record of safe and effective use. Current concerns about the emergence of resistant bacteria and environmental accumulation of bioactive materials are very real and Thai Acrylic Fibre take these issues seriously. We constantly review this data and remain confident that Amicor and the active ingredients contained inside the fibre have not and do not impact upon these issues.
Amicor’s additives have undergone continuous testing over the thirty-year period that they have been in use. The anti-bacterial additive is so safe, that it can be found in many toothpastes, mouthwashes and deodorising products. The anti-fungal additive is also commonly found in over the counter foot preparations.
